Description
A Tour to Petra – Jordan by ferry from Sharm el Sheikh, Excursion to visit Petra and its Sightseeing, to discover the great treasury, Roman theatre, the Royal tombs, Rainbow tombs and the Canyon.
We run this tour every Tuesday & Friday
Pickup time between 2:30 – 3:30 am depending on your hotel’s location
Pick up from the hotel & transfer to ferry boat
Pick up from your hotel in Sharm el Sheikh in the early morning, then drive for approximately two and half hours to Taba, it is nice drive through Sinai desert between the high mountains of Sinai and the Gulf of Aqaba. Come to dock to take the Ferry boat at 07.30 am, sail across the Gulf of Aqaba from Taba to Aqaba – Jordan, and arrive at 08.45 am. Drive to Petra by bus for approximately two hours, where a 2-3 hour guided tour begins.
Walk through the Canyon
We start the tour on foot, though the Canyon, a narrow, winding gorge over 1 kilometer in length. Beautiful sandstone formations of Petra were once occupied by the Edomites. One of the reasons why Petra was such an attractive site for the Nabataea’s is its virtual hiddeness behind a narrow and easily defensible canyon known as the Siq.
Visit of Al Khazneh or The great treasury of the Pharaoh
As you come to the end of this beautiful ravine, a very narrow opening offers a peephole to one of the most spectacular sites in Petra – the treasury. Carved out of the side of the sandstone mountain face probably in the first century BC, scholar’s debate as to its actual function.
The Roman theatre & the Royal tombs
After the visit of the treasury we will visit the Roman theatre which dates back to Byzantine era & the Royal tombs. Not a lot is known about the ancient culture of the Nabataea’s, except that they were excellent engineers.With amazing skill and craft they built water conservation and irrigation systems and carved their homes, temples and tombs right out of the rocks.
Lunch
Have lunch at the Movenpick hotel in the city center.
Visit of Al Habis fort
Afterward, we continue our tour to the hill of Al-Habis fort which dates back to Crusaders times, for a breathtaking panoramic view of deep gullies and uniquely colored rock formations.
Back to Sharm-el-Sheikh
At the end of the day drive back to Aqaba port and sail back to Taba then by air-conditioned van back to Sharm el Sheikh. Transfer to your hotel.
